Lost at sea: Escaping a watery grave.
Now you get to work on your own, you may choose task 2 or 3 (only one of them!)
Task 2
● What emotional and physical traits enable
survivors to make it through life-threatening
situations?
● Research the psychology of survival and write
an article (250-300 words) for a magazine
explaining what kind of mental attitude is
necessary to survive a harrowing experience.
Include real life examples of survival.
Task 3
● Research survival skills that enable people to survive at sea should their yacht
capsize, catch fire, or they lose their captain.
● Use these questions to help your research
1. How can the word SURVIVAL help you get through a crisis?
2. If you have no water to drink, should you eat? Why or why not?
3. How can you reduce your water loss even if you're sweating?
4. What can you drink if you are stranded at sea? What shouldn't you drink?
5. How can you get food?
● Use this information to write a diary describing how you managed to survive 10 days
at sea with no water or food. Don't forget to include information about mental health
and state of mind. You may present your diary in Powerpoint format making it as interesting as
possible to the rest of the group.
