  1. Smuggling and trafficking of animals

Used as original household pets, many Argentine species are part of a huge network of illegal trade. Our country moves per year more than 150 million pesos, according to Interpol. This the third most important illicit activity after drug and arms sales. Everything is useful: turtles, parrots, spiders, monkeys, birds, reptiles and felines. Some are in danger species.

The animals are wanted dead or alive to be sold as exotic pets, trophy or as byproducts, as with the crocodiles for their meat and leather.

Although this illegal network with animals may be very complex, we can make an effort and try to solve it together.

We should work together by, for example, not buying exotic pets, such as parrots, monkeys; feline fur coats (wild grasses or cats) and other species; leather goods like handbags or shoes with leathers made of alligators.

We can try to educate or inform traders and trappers participating in the trade, so they know which are legal, and which are not.

It’s a must to inform the authorities when we realize about an illegal market or shop
